I haven’t had a chance to do touristy stuff since coming over in February 2024, so I’m thinking maybe we can do some of these together.
Please note that apart from my actual birthday event, none of this is compulsory.
I will also list activities that I won’t participate in but can recommend and will probably update intermittently…
Optional Activities
-
Ubud Water Purification Ceremony
2024 brought a lot of negative stuff to most people I know. I’d like to spend one day going and doing the water purification ceremony and potentially visit a healer.
I will need to investigate this further as I’d like to do this privately or as a private group but TripAdvisor lists a generic tour that costs $120AUD per person.
Will confirm more details closer to the date.
-
Bali Instagram Tour
Look, this is probably one of the lamest things to suggest but I don’t care.
For this, I’m suggesting we hire my neighbour Bagus for the day and a photographer and hit up the sport.
TripAdvisor gives this tour an estimated 8-10 hours. That sounds gross to me so we’ll cut some of the locations or break it up over a couple of trips.
Cost and details to be confirmed closer to the date.
-
Trip to Uluwatu (with add-ons) (overnight or one long day)
Uluwatu is about 1.5-2 hours drive from Canggu but has some really deadly stuff worth checking out.
I’d love to do an overnight trip there and do some of the following:
- Dinner at The Cave (it’s an expensive degustation in an actual cave - see photo above).
- Spend some time at Savaya, a beach club on a 100m high clifftop on the Bukit Peninsula that has two large infinity pools with swim-up bars.
- Spend some time at one of the beach club’s like Sundays Beach Club that can only be accessed by a cable car that takes you down a cliff to the beach and club.
Recommended (but I won’t do)
- Go see a traditional kecak dance at Uluwatu temple at sunset.
- Do a fresh seafood dinner on the beach at Jimbaran.
Cost and details to be confirmed closer to the date.
NB: this can all be done in a day but I don’t know how keen I am for 3-4 hours of driving when I can sleep overnight somewhere.
-
Jewellery Making Workshop
Mum and I did this at Christmas time, and it was a great experience.
From $45AUD up, you get the opportunity to work with the artisans at Bali Turtle Jewelry to create your own piece (ring, bracelet, pendant, etc). The instructors will guide you through the techniques of working with Bali’s renowned silver, including design, shaping, and finishing.
I will probably end up doing this again.
-
Afternoon Session at Finns Beach Club
Look, I’m not going to mince my words here - Finns Beach Club is a non-stop party day and night full of loose units.
That being said, it’s A LOT OF FUN.
It describes itself as “The World’s Best Beach Club”, which is a big call.
It is a beachfront venue, featuring three areas, three pools, ten bars, three party restaurants, seven kitchens, daily world-class entertainment, and Bali’s best parties 7 days a week.
It will be drinks in the pool or at a pre-booked area like a table or daybed (or both), djs spinning good music and an array of bizarre performers moving throughout the crowd.
Details TBA closer to the date.
-
Puppy Yoga
I feel like if you add puppies to anything, it get’s infinitely better.
I have done Puppy Yoga and LOVED it. Much like the jewellery workshop, I don’t know if I’ll do it again but probably could be convinced.
The cost is about $50 AUD and part of the profits go to the Bali Animal Welfare Association (BAWA) - a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping animals in Bali.
Miscellaneous Other Activities
Having been to Bali countless times, I can wholeheartedly say there is a huge amount of great things you can do when you get over here.
For the people with kids, Waterbom Bali (a better version of Wet n’ Wild on the Gold Coast) is fun for the whole family.
Other popular activities include:
Day trip to Ubud and it’s art market
Visit to Tanah Lot, a temple in the middle of the ocean that can be accessed at low tide
See a traditional performance (different to the kecak dance)
Do an Indonesian cooking class
Do a hike up a beautiful mountain at sunrise
Go to the monkey forest (I hate monkeys - got at your own risk)
Visit waterfalls (probably something I’d like to do if I’m not too activitied out)
Go snorkeling or do a surfing lesson (or both)
Do a day or overnight trip to one of the islands down south like Nusa Penida
Take a class and make your own batik material (traditional Balinese fabric dying).
The options really are endless and like I said, you can spend as much or as little as you’d like.
To get a greater understanding of some activity options, check out TripAdvisor (but don’t book anything yet).
